The Bow Bag began in Amsterdam as a shape held in the hand, not as a bag. Making the first one was quick. Getting it right took eighteen months. Every one is made by hand in Dortmund, from start to finish, by one person.

Concept and Making
Amsterdam, the atelier at Viktor & Rolf. I was working on a wedding dress, holding its bow in one hand, when I caught my reflection in the mirror and saw a bag.
Everything since has been an attempt to keep that first misreading intact. A ribbon that behaves like an object. A playful distortion of function and form.
Making
A bow that keeps its shape has to be built, not tied. The pattern kept changing until the loops held on their own. It has not changed since.
Every bag is made from start to finish by one person, in one studio in Dortmund. Cut by hand, shaped over a form, closed by hand, one bag at a time. No two sit exactly alike.
None of this can be rushed. The bag is finished when it holds.
Material and Care
Vegan leather. No animal material at any stage.
Wipe with a soft dry cloth. Keep away from direct heat and long sun. Store upright and lightly filled so the loops keep their shape. The surface will soften and take on the marks of use. This is intended.
